My WiPs.

Quite a few WiPs here. Some that are just about to start, and others that have already begun. As you may have noticed, I finally posted the reveal of the Flower to Hexagon Granny Blanket last night! So that one is done.

I’ll start off with two WiPs that are about to be ~ so maybe they’re not “in progress” yet, but they will be soon. With the holidays and then the cord issues with my computer, I got very far behind in the blogs I enjoy reading. I missed the announcement of the next Craft Hope project. Luckily it is not due until Valentine’s day, and it should be a rather fast project. It is a beautiful red scarf for foster care teens. This project is much more specific then the others, but it looks like fun to me, and it’s for a good cause, so I’m fine with that! I am watching Jenn’s girls this morning, and Jenn works at ACMoore, so I gave her some cash and she’s going to pick up some yarn for me. WooHoo! I’m looking forward to making this scarf!

Now Craft Hope has also started something amazing. The lovely ladies behind the scenes have opened up an Etsy shop. They have been listing handmade items that crafters are donating for sale. All the money made (minus the Etsy fees) is being donated to Doctors Without Boarders in Haiti. The response was much bigger then they thought, so after around $10,000 raised in just a few days, they are taking 2 weeks to regroup and organize, and then they will be taking donations again. I will be taking those 2 weeks to get some crafts together. In the meantime, there are some beautiful handmade pretties for sale from the Craft Hope Etsy shop. Buy yourself something pretty and help out Haiti!

OK, onto some other WiPs. I have started the next blanket for the girls. This one will be octagons and squares.

The squares are from a pattern by Lucy in Attic24 ~ she just had her little boy, so stop on by and give her your well-wishes! I added in a dimensional flower on every other one. The octagons are a pattern of my making. It took quite a while to get it right. I am happy with the results.

Just like Hexie, it starts out with a flower. This time the flower has eight petals and it turns into an octagon. The squares are there because octagons don’t tessellate, so I needed the squares to fill in the gaps. I have the first two rows done, I think it will be 8 rows tall when done. Yes ~ there will be a tutorial, but most likely not for a few weeks.

This weekend we went to a medieval event ~ I will post those pictures in the next few days. While there we found out that Janice, a friend of ours who Doug has known since he was a teenager, just had a very large cancerous tumor removed. She is fighting to get healthy. One of our fearless leader types, the lovely Rose, asked her what we could do for her. Janice said she would love a quilt from all of us. So Rose found some very Janice-y fabric and everyone who could help took some home. I pulled out this book I have had sitting about for years for a little inspiration.

Here are a few sneak peeks of what we have started here ~ yes there has been some help from Doug. I’ll post more about Doug’s square and pictures of all the finished squares when they are done. Most likely over the weekend so they can be mailed back to Rose on Monday.

Yes, that last picture is just to show you the fabrics, it is not an actual quilt square. ;o)

Lastly, here are a few looks at Doug’s Gambason. I will be making a post just for that as it gets a little farther along.

Oh ~ while I was typing this, Jenn came back. She brought me 2 skeins of Lion Brand Homespun Yarn in Chili. I will start the scarf later today!!!

Well, the girls are about done with lunch, so I should put them down for a nap and get some cleaning and crafting done. Have a Wonderful Wednesday!

  1. Love the hexagon crochet flower pattern. I really want to give it a try, it’s so beautiful. Just love your yarn colour choices too. I always struggle when selecting the right colours. Thanks for the nice comments on my blog.
    Have a great day!
