After creating my Spring Cowgirl cowl, I knew I wanted to make a wrap based off it. I finally found the right yarn for the project and was able to create the Spring Country Wrap. It’s an easy pattern – the most challenging part is the very beginning, so once you get going it’s smooth sailing. There are plenty of color combinations in the It’s A Wrap Rainbow yarn to choose from, so you can make one to match your color taste.

Pattern Notes

  • Read through all instructions before beginning.
  • The stitch count is at the end of each row after the period. {count here}
  • It may be easier to get started with double point needles for the first dozen or so rows, though I made mine with my Clover bamboo interchangeable circulars and had no problems. Rows 6 and 7 were a little tight, but workable.

FAQs

I want to use a different weight yarn and different size needles, is that OK?

It should be fine. Keep in mind that this will change the gauge and therefor change the size of the finished piece. See the next question to adjust the size if needed.

Is it possible to adjust the finished size of the shawl?

That’s super easy! A smaller shawl will take less yarn, and a larger one will take more yarn. To change the size of the shawl, repeat rows 9-32 less times (smaller) or more times (larger). When you are at the size you want after finishing a repeat of row 32, then move on to the border. The border is 7 rows, so it will add just a bit more width to your shawl.

  1. Hi, I have a medium yarn, size 4 that calls for 6mm needles, but I really want to make this shawl with it. Would it be giant if I followed your directions exactly or would it be too small?

    • Check the gauge. If your swatch is smaller, your shawl will be smaller. You can try using larger needles to make the gauge larger, or you can just repeat rows 9-32 more times to make it larger. It will just take more yarn. Good luck and have fun!

  2. The It’s a wrap rainbow is a #2 weight yarn, the it’s a wrap yarn is a #1 yarn. Which one should we actually be using on this pattern?

  3. Hmm, I have started this a couple of times and ripped it out, I am not figuring out how to get the lace pattern the way you have it, mine is more like this: ^. Actually everything is straight across, not as you have it. Am I making a mistake in my casting on? Are you starting at the bottom point of the shawl, or is the start on another part of the shawl? I was so excited to find the exact yarn, but my shawl is not turning out like yours. Any advice you could give me would be much appreciated.
