This light and lacy chevron cowl or scarf is perfect for your fall wardrobe. The beautiful drape of the Crystal Palace Panda Silk yarn is just what this stitch pattern needs. One ball will make a cowl, or get 3 balls for a scarf. Plus, this yarn is machine washable!! This pattern includes written directions and a chart. So get yourself ready for the cooler weather with this beautiful cowl or scarf.

8″ wide by 25″ around for a cowl
8″ wide by 75″ long for a scarf

Yarn:
Crystal Palace Panda Silk: 52% bamboo/43% machine washable Merino wool/5% combed silk 204 yds/50 gr. color: 5109 Treasure Chest ~ 1 ball for a cowl and 3 balls for a scarf

Hook:
US 6/G/4.00 mm

Gauge:
22 sts by 10 rows = 4″ in dc

ch ~ chain
sl st ~ slip stitch
dc ~ double crochet
tr ~ treble crochet

Special Sts:
double crochet 3 together (dc3tog): Yo, insert hook into st, yo, pull through the st only (3 loops on hook), yo, pull through 2 loops (2 loops on hook), yo, insert hook into next st, yo, pull through the st only (4 loops on hook), yo, pull through 2 loops (3 loops on hook), yo, insert hook into next st, yo, pull through the st only (5 loops on hook), yo, pull through 2 loops (4 loops on hook), yo, pull through all 4 loops. Double crochet 3 together made.

Getting Started:
The Lucy Chevron stitch pattern was inspired by Tamara Kelly’s Craftsy class on increases and decreases.
This pattern can be made wider or thinner by adding or subtracting multiples of 14 chains from the starting chain! Just keep in mind that changing the width will change the amount of yarn used.
As with most lace patterns, this item looks best after it has been blocked to open up the lace. If you are making the cowl, block the item after completing the last row but before joining it into a circle.

Row 1: Ch 44 (the last 3 chs count as the first dc) , 2 dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each of next 3 ch, dc3tog, dc3tog, dc in each of next 3 ch, 3 dc in next ch, [3 dc in next ch, dc in each of next 3 ch, dc3tog, dc3tog, dc in each of next 3 ch, 3 dc in next ch] 2 times. ~ 42 sts
Row 2: Turn, ch 5 (counts as first tr and ch-1), tr in same st, ch 1, skip 1, tr in next st, ch 1, skip 1, tr3tog, tr3tog, ch 1, skip 1, tr in next st, ch 1, skip 1, (tr, ch 1, tr) in next st, [(tr, ch 1, tr) in next st, ch 1, skip 1, tr in next st, ch 1, skip 1, tr3tog, tr3tog, ch 1, skip 1, tr in next st, ch 1, skip 1, (tr, ch 1, tr) in next st] 2 times. ~ 42 sts
Row 3: Turn, ch 3 (counts as first dc) 2 dc in same st, dc in each of next 3 sts, dc3tog, dc3tog, dc in each of next 3 sts, 3 dc in next st, [3 dc in next st, dc in each of next 3 sts, dc3tog, dc3tog, dc in each of next 3 sts, 3 dc in next st] 2 times. ~ 42 sts
Repeat rows 2 & 3: until all yarn is used (3 balls for scarf, 1 ball for cowl) be sure to end on row 3 if making a scarf, or row 2 if making a cowl, and be sure to have enough yarn left for seaming if making cowl.

Block item.

If making cowl, fold item into a circle and use a yarn needle and ending yarn tail to sew the last row and first row together. I used this technique.

Weave in all ends.

Here is a chart as well. Please note that the chart does not include starting chains on the rows, just the full size stitches. Rows that start with a dc can replace the first dc with a ch 3, and rows that start with a tr can replace the first tr with a ch 4. Please do not pin or copy this chart in any way.
