Mountain Colors yarn review from Jessie At HomePinNineteen years ago Diana McKay & Leslie Taylor had young children at home and wanted interesting jobs with very flexible hours; so they started hand dyeing beautiful high quality wools in their kitchens. They grew, moved into a dye studio, and hired a wonderful staff. They now carry 21 yarns in 60+ luscious colors that have been in inspired by the mountains, rivers and woodlands that surround them.

Mountain Colors sells wholesale, so you can not purchase straight from their site, however, they have put together a list of stores that carry their yarn! You can find that list HERE. In addition, you can order many of their yarns from FiberWild.

I met Diana and Leslie at the last TNNA trade show, and they were generous enough to provide 7 skeins of Twizzlefoot fingering weight yarn for the tasting tables at Yarn and Wine 2016. Twizzlefoot is made of 53% Superwash Merino Wool, 17% Domestic Wool, 17% Silk, 13% Nylon and comes in skeins of 450 yds/100 gm. I played with some of it and created the flower bracelet you see in the top image of this post. I also made some swatches of crochet linen stitch and knit stockinette stitch. I’ve labeled the colors in my swatches below.

Twizzlefoot was wonderful to work with. It was very gentle on my hands, and held together nicely – no splits! The yarn itself is clearly high quality, and the colors are fantastic! I’m going to have to give more yarns by Mountain Colors a try, as I love this one and imagine the rest must be wonderful as well!
