Part 3 of the New Year New Skill CAL, I’m going to teach you a little about crochet cables.

Hello and welcome to week 3 of the New Year New Skill CAL, you can follow along with the CAL at the CAL Central Crochet Facebook group, HERE.

This week I’m going to teach you a little about crochet cables. Crochet cables are made with front and back post stitches. If you are not familiar with post stitches, you can learn about them HERE.

To make crochet cables, you first skip some stitches (usually 1-3) then work some stitches (usually 1-3 again), then work back in the skipped stitches, either in front of or behind the first stitches you made, depending on which way you want the cables to lean. For cables of 2 or 3 stitches on each side, I tend to make the post stitches in the cables one size longer then the regular post stitches as they have more distance to cover. I have a written and video tutorial on post stitch cables HERE.

Last week I released a pattern that is perfect for learning cables. You can find the Cabled Ear Warmers pattern HERE. It’s quick and easy and can be made to just about any size.
